The Ox, or Buffalo, conjures a common image of labouring in fields, a model of stability and perseverance. This also holds true to the characteristics of those born in the year of the Ox as they are blessed with similar traits. If there are any signs that would win prizes for being trustworthy, then it is the Ox that would triumph. They only know of one way to reach their goals, that is too work hard and to persevere until the end. They hate to leave a chore undone and would be aghast if they were unable to fulfil a commitment before properly seeing it to fruition.
Fantasy, small tasks and waiting for luck to strike are activities the Ox would rather have nothing to do with. They prefer to play it safe and believe only in what is proven by experience and tradition. Consequently, risks of having setbacks are quite small, on the other hand, progress is slow and results are usually late. With time, they may have high-ranking jobs but they will not get as high, (or at least as fast), as others who take the initiative, are more imaginative or less afraid of taking chances. So, according to Chinese tradition, success only comes to most Oxen in the latter stage of life, in other words, relatively late. Moreover, for those that do make it early, the success will not be solid or secure.Generally Oxen are pacifists, unless they are provoked, which according to the Chinese, is not advisable. This occurs because underneath their renowned patience, Oxen have a stormy temperance that is not easy to quell.
